Financial Considerations of Divorce and Distribution 9:00am – 10:15am
Mr. Thomas Shaffer will elaborate on Financial Considerations of Divorce and assets in equitable distribution cases. He will explain how to effectively evaluate business assets and other unique assets in order to protect the client’s interest in a fair division of assets and debts during a contested proceeding.

Child Support Modifications 10:30am – 11:35am
In this session, we will discuss the actual basis for child support modifications. Can you just show an increase in income? Must you show the needs of the child have changed? Must you wait 3 years from the last modification? What is a bad-faith reason for a reduction in income? Get the answers!

Terminating Parental Rights Case Law Update 11:45am – 12:50pm
We will take a comprehensive look at some of the cases decided by the NC Appellate courts within the last 2 years that have addressed terminating parental rights.

Texting- An Ethical Issue 10:00am – 11:05am
In this session, we will discuss the NC Bar’s Ethics Opinions regarding text message advertising and related issues.

Custody Modifications 11:15am – 12:30pm
Attorney Leigh Williams will elaborate on custody modifications. She will discuss the standard for review regarding the substantial change in circumstances and review cases that met that legal standard. She will also discuss strategies to be more effective in pleading these motions.

Child Custody Cases under the Hague Convention 1:00pm – 2:15pm
Attorney Mark Williams will discuss Child Custody Cases under the Hague Convention. He will review the statutory authority and case law that helps determine which state or country should have jurisdiction in a custody dispute.
